About the internship

The Space Economy Research Internship is a structured, project-driven engagement where interns are embedded into Maargin's active research work. Unlike conventional programmes, there are no pre-recorded lectures or assessments โ€” you are treated as a junior researcher contributing to ongoing challenges.

You will be assigned to a research track based on your background and interests, work with a dedicated mentor from the Maargin team, and produce tangible outputs that form part of Maargin's work in sustainable space systems.

Research areas

Interns are placed into one or more of the following active research tracks:

๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ Space Economy Mission Design

Investigating constraint-driven approaches to small satellite and CubeSat mission architecture. Includes trade-off analysis and lean launch strategy research.

๐Ÿค– AI in Space

Building and evaluating lightweight AI models for onboard processing, anomaly detection, and autonomous decision-making under resource constraints.

๐ŸŒฑ Sustainable Orbital Economy

Research into debris mitigation, responsible de-orbiting strategies, and the long-term economics of a sustainable orbital ecosystem.

What you will work on

Outputs vary by research track but typically include one or more of the following:

๐ŸŽฏ Research analysis or feasibility study
๐ŸŽฏ AI model prototype for space use case
๐ŸŽฏ Synthetic or mission dataset generation
๐ŸŽฏ Technical report or white paper
๐ŸŽฏ Mission architecture trade-off doc
๐ŸŽฏ Ground segment or infra design

Who should apply

๐ŸŽ“ Students & recent graduates

Engineering, computer science, or physics students looking for real research exposure.

๐Ÿ’ผ Early-career professionals

Those pivoting into space technology or AI who want applied project experience.
