Tax Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
The Tax Manager reports to the Partners and works closely with the other employees in the firm.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
· Tax return preparation and review: Prepare and/or review individual, fiduciary, gift, partnership, and corporate tax returns, including preparation of work papers; preparation of tax projections and related estimated payments; analyze client information and offer recommendations for reducing client tax liabilities.
· Perform tax research.
· Assist with tax notice responses and audit defense.
· Education to staff on tax issues.
· Train and mentor associates and interns on tax projects.
· General accounting for client business’ to be used in preparing income tax returns, including preparation of trial balances and related adjusting journal entries, preparing deposits, and distribution requests.
· Stay current on the latest tax law changes. Take advantage of continuing education opportunities.
· Assist with general administrative functions of the tax department.
· Proactively interact with key client management to gather information, resolve tax-related problems, and make recommendations for business and process improvements.
· Special projects, as necessary.
COMPETENCIES REQUIRED
· Minimum 5+ years’ experience in tax preparation.
· Excellent knowledge of federal and state tax laws and regulations.
· Strong knowledge of Excel, Word, and QuickBooks.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely with colleagues and clients.
· Strong reconciliation and analysis skills.
